REI has a lot of Garmin on sale right now, which is good because Garmin makes some of the most reliable and durable. fitness tracker. This is backcountry watch I wear when camping off-grid because it makes the right compromise — leave a large, bright screen for better battery life and tracking features.

Before I tried Coros Pace 2 (8/10, Recommended by WIRED), I would say that Garmin’s Forerunner series features the best running watches hands down. They’re still great, and you can find Forerunners at almost any price point. Midrange 245 includes all the industry standards for tracking performance metrics, with features like analyzing the incident if you’re in for a long time and, uh, fall and can’t get up.

Our last Garmin choice was the Venu Sq, which was in our guide to Best Fitness Tracker and our list of Best Smartwatches. It combines the accuracy and performance standards of Garmin, the capability of Fitbit, and the… aesthetics of Apple? Not much, but it’s a good price for an entry-level tracker.

If you are progressing on your fitness journey, you will probably need to include some strength training. The Tempo Studio (8/10, Recommended by WIRED) is a convenient and safe way to do that if you still avoid public gyms, and it’s much more readily available at this price point.

Footwear and Clothing Deals

REI’s in-house line of equipment and apparel is extremely inexpensive for the specs it offers. A water-resistant, packable puffer jacket like Magma (women) is one of most versatile pieces the camping and travel clothes you will get. It’s also a good layer under a waterproof shell for more intense outdoor activities. And there is lighter version ($ 70) (women’s version here).

If you shop for early stocking stuffers, everyone can use another pair of liner gloves. They work well on their own for running or hiking, or under insulated and waterproof gloves in colder weather. They are also sold on Back-town.

One of the biggest barriers to enjoying snow sports is inappropriate clothing. A good bib will keep snow out of your underpants, and it has synthetic insulation, leg holes to dissipate heat, and boot gaiters to keep your underpants warm and dry.
