Of All The Video Game Remakes, Why Not ‘SSX?’

Arcade style sports games there were follow-ups in the early and mid-2000s. from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater in many returns to FIFA and NFL titles, these games have a lasting impact on players, with many continuing to play new games or watching remakes or remasters of their favorites. One such series is SSX, the popular snowboarding game released just over 20 years ago.

SSX is the first title from EA Sports Big, a recent addition to the EA developer umbrella. The game has received critical praise throughout lumber and has received numerous awards, including 2001 Console Game of the Year from the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

The franchise has seen a lot of successes, and a full reboot of the series was released in 2012 to be pretty positive. reviews (though fans seem to have a different reaction). But since then, there hasn’t been a ton of discussion SSX. Other popular games from the PlayStation 2 era have gotten remakes or remasters in recent years, such as Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, Dark cloud, and several Grand Theft Auto games. But why not SSX?

Speaking to fans of the series, it became clear that there were some key elements that attracted them to the game in the first place. Matt Paprocki, a freelance writer and game collector, shared the first thing that intrigued him: “Right away? It feels new. Compared to Cool Boarders or 1080 Snowboarding, SSX uses light, color, and sound in a way that reflects next -generation hardware. That, and its systems have been completely removed from imitation games Tony Hawk. Super accessible design. ”

And as any gamer knows, there is a sense of nostalgia and love for the games that can linger for many years after their first release. For you Flora Eloise, cofounder of the gaming website Epilogue Game, definitely has some nostalgia cooked up SSX.

“Nostalgia? That’s the name of SSX game for me. I grew up in a low -income household, where I was lucky enough to get either a game for my birthday or Christmas, so if the games had some bad spots, they still hid themselves. in my memory. SSX, however, is one of the rare games from that era that I will defend as proceeding from a mechanical and design standpoint. It’s just as fun to play now as it used to be, and I can say that both have nostalgia goggles on or off.

SSX there is a real stance in the memories of the players. Whether because of the colorful graphics or its focus on fast-paced gameplay, players are still cracking the PlayStation 2 to reclaim the title. Paprocki says he went back to the original SSX and its link, SSX Lisud, usually. “Discs are loaded fairly regularly when time allows. Let me say this: If I boot to PS2 or Xbox, SSX is undoubtedly in rotation, if not the reason I turned it back on first. ”

So with fond memories tied to the game, what do players think of a hypothetical remake or remaster in the future? Overall, the fans seemed very favorable. Chris Alaimo, which runs the YouTube channel Classic Game every quarterly, said, “It’s a shame we haven’t seen a new entry in SSX series for a long time. As my happiest memories are playing the original game, I would love to see a remaster of it for modern consoles, but really, any new entry in the series is likely a one day purchase for me.
