How to Migrate From Google Authenticator to Another 2FA App

Keep in mind that the codes you generate using Google Authenticator cause access to all of your digital accounts. If you lose access to those codes, you’ll need to switch to a backup access method-in the case of Google accounts, that could mean entering one of the provided backup code you prepared is 2FA.

If you are ready and determined to make the switch from Google Authenticator to Twilio Authy, you need to make sure first that you get the same apps installed on your phone. Afterwards you can start transferring your accounts, individually.

There is no automatic or quick process here. It’s just a question of going to your accounts, disabling the temporary 2FA feature, and then having Authy trigger it instead of Google Authenticator. You may be without 2FA protection for a few seconds before you get up and run with Authy.

Obviously, the exact process will depend on which accounts you use. For example a Google account, you need to open your account page on the web, choice salvation and 2-Step Verification, Klik kill, confirm your choice, click 2-Step Verification again, and then click dash. It will take you through the process of setting up 2FA in your account.

Nowadays, Google likes to use a prompt on your phone as 2FA confirmation, but you’ll find an optional authenticator application beyond the settings screen once 2FA is back in place. Clicking Setting up, and finally show you a QR code, which you can scan using the Authy app. In Authy, tap Adding Account and QR Code Scanning.

It’s always a good idea to check if the login you changed is working before moving on to the next one. To get an account from Google Authenticator, tap and hold it, then press Trash Item (high right). Go through the list of accounts you have configured in the app, turn off and resume 2FA for each.
