Starship Technologies: looking forward to 2021 | by Ahti Heinla | Starship Technologies
Grocery chains are increasingly relying on new delivery alternatives, as they seek to meet customer demand safely and effectively. Last September we announced our first partnership with a leading U.S. grocery chain, The Save Mart Company, to provide on-demand, instant delivery of their customers ’preferred products to their door.
When university students return, our robots are busy offering contactless, fast and inexpensive delivery to campus. The number of independent deliveries is growing, recording records every week. We have plans to expand to several new universities by 2021.
As we move on to the next chapter, Lex Bayer stepped down after serving as CEO of Starship from June 2018 to October 2020. During his tenure, the number of deliveries completed by the Company’s autonomous robots grew from 5,000 to of more than 500,000, with more than 1 million miles traveled. We are proud of the growth and accomplishments of Starship this season and we are grateful for Lex’s contributions, and we wish him well in his future endeavors.
I will act as the unintentional CEO as we find the very best person to lead the company in the future. Since founding Starship with Janus Friis in 2014, I have been proud to have had a part in achieving our vision, including being CEO for nearly four years and more recently as CTO.
By early 2021 we expect to have our one millionth autonomous delivery. We’ve come a long way thanks to our new and leading team of robotics but – more importantly – the great team of people who have made our company what it is today. I can’t wait for us to share more news about our Starship trip soon.
